Take It On 04:28
I never found the words to speak on in the silence, when the morning comes. And the girl with the brash behavior, she's got her own life. I can't save her. Can't change her. Won't get in the way. I still burn like paper. "You novice...you faker," she sighed. I can't seem to keep you talking; Lay down your arms and use your words. You know the world ain't watching. For all your rage, it's all the same. And I guess I could lie, if it eases your mind, but that won't change the way I feel inside. This may seem real to one while the other's afraid; One may walk away, though one has stayed. And you might bleed anyway, though I mean you no harm, but I cannot take it on. She's made of dust and ashes her lover's breath, the setting sun. And as the moment passes, the lights go out, the day is done. And I guess I could lie, if it eases your mind, but that won't change the way I feel inside. This may seem real to one while the other's afraid; One may walk away, though one has stayed. And you might bleed anyway, though I mean you no harm, but I cannot take it on. No matter what is written in the words of a song; No matter who is rambling and carrying on. The door is closing. I'll hold it open, but I cannot take it on. These days are wasted numbers she rifles through with tired eyes. She cries and wails and slumbers, like one who fails but never tries. And I guess I could lie, if it eases your mind, but that won't change the way I feel inside. This may seem real to one while the other's afraid; One may walk away, though one has stayed. And you might bleed anyway, though I mean you no harm, but I cannot take it on. (c) 2016 Ryan David Orr/Everybody Everywhere Music (ASCAP)

Took more than fortune to bring her out of her hiding place. Looking for something more vindicating than her disgrace. Hear the rain fall, rat-tat-tat-tat-tat, on the blacktop outside of the theater. And the man with his hands held out and the tattered, old loincloth really don't know her. We fell asleep in the satellite, looking for a way inside of a garden overgrown with angry thorns and no more roses. Upon the alter the masses are playing balderdash; Inventing their incentive, expensive, but paid in cash. See the coins drop, 1-2-3-4-5. Look alive, son, this won't save you. Let's just be honest: you couldn't possibly promise to dwell upon us and con us into doing what you want us to do. We fell asleep in the satellite, looking for a way inside of a garden overgrown with angry thorns and no more roses. We fell asleep in the satellite, looking for a way inside of a garden overgrown with angry thorns and no more roses. We fell asleep in the satellite, trying to be satisfied with the way things have always been, and fear in our eyes. (c) 2016 Ryan David Orr/Everybody Everywhere Music (ASCAP)

And you always say you want to sit and talk about it, but you cannot seem to believe that two could try. And you want to tell them all you know the truth about it, as they terrorize and deface what you confide. There's a moment right before a vote of confidence when the truth is not true enough for everyone. I paid too much attention; now I'm suffocated by a million animal eyes and all they spy. Well, yes, I guess it is like that if you would ask, but is there a right way to say that you were wrong? 'Cause I make up a scenario that's got to be, then I chew off all of my nails trying to belong. And you open out into nothing, hoping that the trains go, the trains go far and the planes go the planes go far I'm shouting at the coward in the mirror because he's laughing when I want to cry, and we both give up. I said I think that broken love is like a drug to me with such bitterly blissful effects, I just wander back. "Well, that's a cop-out and you know it!" I yell back at me, "now just get up off of the floor, you selfish child! "'Cause you always say you want to sit and talk about it, but when it comes down to the words, there's just your side." And you open out into nothing, hoping that the trains go, the trains go far and the planes go the planes go far (c) 2016 Ryan David Orr/Everybody Everywhere Music (ASCAP)

Saw them stand at a distance, as if any one of them could really break your fall. Like, she retreated, for instance, when the walls surrounding you were much too tall. When the fighter was silent, all the meddling masses could dry their eyes. And they all look enamored; and they all look like they couldn't be more nice. Scream out over all of the noise how you need these perpetual joys, how they bring out the beast in the boy, and the man is lost in the light. Remember, for every stride that you endure, the future is mostly blurred by the way we were. And so it goes... Did you mean to insult me when you tell me that there's nothing left that you can do? You could ask her forgiveness, and no one would ever notice, but it's not like you. Penny for all of your thoughts, love. For a moment I could see your heart breaking through. It's the shield and the saber; it's the truth and the labor of an honest view. Scream out over all of the noise how you need these perpetual joys, how they bring out the beast in the boy, and the man is lost in the light. Remember, for every stride that you endure, the future is mostly blurred by the way we were. And so it goes... I will not lie if you ask what I'm thinking, but I might not say what you want to hear. It's a frivolous gesture to reach out and grab you just as you're turning and walking away, and not so revealing as holding you near. Why don't you care that I feel what I'm feeling? Why can I never just fucking ignore the myriad characters selling their stories to everyone everywhere willing to pay? How could you ask me for anything more? Forsake these eyes; they never see truth where it lies, so patiently waiting in vain to be seen. And I want you to feel the emptiness there when you call and I just don't appear, and all that could be here is painfully clear. I don't know how to stand here in the corner, pretending that nothing could quell my delight; Pretending that I notice anyone else in the room, And you know that it's true, so don't lie. I play along just as anyone might. Don't think that just because I can be honest, and just because I wish for something to love, that I'm not aware of the smallest intention, you're not going to fool me, don't even try. I know the mystery this is made of. Forsake these eyes; they never see truth where it lies, so patiently waiting in vain to be seen. And I want you to feel the emptiness there when you call and I just don't appear, and all that could be here is painfully clear. Forsake these eyes; they never see truth where it lies, so patiently waiting in vain to be seen. Trinkets 04:15
She says she's had it with believing. When I speak you don't listen child, you don't listen child. Hold out your hands where I can see them. Where have you been? I would cross those miles, just to see you smile. "I can't impress you," I said, from behind the bedroom wall. "I think we both were dreaming." Then she stormed out, throwing things and screaming about how I wouldn't just give in. And couldn't I be a better friend? And in the silence between the words I heard what we mean: Take all your trinkets back. They were here to remind me of you, now they'll only be filling the room. If you're certain you know what to do, and you're telling the truth, then lead on. If you know, then lead on. I can't get this out of my head: eyes that glisten blue and red as she apologizes and then realizes we are not strong enough to bend farther than we can pretend. And you are always distant; acting so indifferent. Take all your trinkets back. They were here to remind me of you, now they'll only be filling the room. If you're certain you know what to do, and you're telling the truth, then lead on. If you know, then lead on. This witty little change up off your tongue. I was waiting for the words that would never come. Something covered in the dust of older bones. Unmistakably strong; irreversibly gone. Beyond all that we try to belong, close your eyes and lead on. If you know, then lead on. (c) 2016 Ryan David Orr/Everyone Everywhere Music (ASCAP)
